USA today reports Southwest Airlines raised fares $5 each way this weekend, followed by a number of other airlines. The airfare hike was reportedly precipitated by rising fuel costs.
Airlines Add Fuel Surcharges February 2nd, 2011
American Airlines, United-Continental, Air France, JetBlue and Delta are among the airlines instituting ‘fuel surcharge’ fees, as oil approaches the $100/barrel mark again. The fees vary by airline and route, with JetBlue’s surcharge among the highest at 35 dollars each way to its Puerto Rico flights and a 45 dollar fuel surcharge for other destinations in the Caribbean.
